Celebrating Nine Years

To celebrate our anniversary, I surprised my husband with some little love notes and balloons.

9 balloons. 9 photos. 9 things I love about my hubby.

I saw this idea on Pinterest a long time ago, but never actually pinned it, so I don't know the source.

My hubby was surprised and enjoyed all the notes.

For dinner we met up with family at Benihana and had a birthday celebration for my sister in law and we got to celebrate our special day too.

Tonight we will get to go out on the town...just the two of us!

What are some special things you like to do for your anniversary?

Ninth Anniversary

Today my hubby and I are celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary!

I'm so blessed that I get to spend my life with this man.

He is kind
funny
has heart for others
loves me deeply
is an awesome daddy
a hard worker and
a man of God who pursues Him daily.

After 9 years, 3 kids, many moves, lots of ups and some downs, I'm glad he has been by my side through it all. We've grown together and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Banana Cream Puff Bars

Over the weekend we had an impromptu dinner party with some friends and I needed a good and quick dessert. I had all the ingredients for this so, I made it before our guests arrived and popped it in the fridge. Easy peasy.

You really can't go wrong with this recipe...puffy and light crust with pudding, bananas, whipped cream and topped with chocolate. What's not to love? And it's served cold so it's perfect for those last few summer nights.

Banana Cream Puff Bars
adapted from The Pampered Chef

Crust Ingredients:
1 c. water
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, melted
1 c. flour
3 eggs

Filling Ingredients:
2 c. cold milk
2 (3.4 oz) pkg. banana cream pudding
1 (8 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
4 bananas, sliced

Topping Ingredients:
Sweetened Whipped Cream, recipe follows
1/2 c. semi-sweet baking chocolate*, chopped or shaved

1. Preheat oven 400 degrees.
2. For crust: bring butter and water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add flour and stir until the mixture forms a ball and leaves the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each one. Once all eggs are added and mixture is smooth, spread evenly into a 9x13 pan. Bake for 20 minutes. Crust will puff up unevenly. Using a fork, poke the crust to release the steam. Bake for 5 more minutes or until crust is golden brown. Let cool.
3. For filling: Add milk to a mixing bowl. Add pudding mixes and whisk until thick, about 2 minutes. Fold in the whipped topping. Spread pudding over cooled crust. Layer sliced bananas over pudding.
4. For topping: Evenly spread sweetened whipped cream over bananas and top with chopped chocolate. *sometimes I use chocolate chips if I don't have the baking chocolate squares.
5. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Cut into 16 squares.

Sweetened Whipped Cream
1 1/4 c. heavy whipping cream
1/4 c. confectioner's sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

In an electric mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, whip cold cream. When it starts to thicken, add sugar and vanilla. Continue to whip until stiff peaks form.

Master Bath Reveal

When we moved into this house, 6 years ago, we had big plans to renovate our master bathroom. It was small and not a very good use of space...not to mention the outdated color scheme and cabinetry. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the bathroom before, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

It was one of the last projects on the list, but since we decided to move on a whim, we had to put our original plans aside and just give it a face lift so that it would be ready to sell.

One of the things that made a big improvement in the space, was installing barn door hardware for an exterior sliding door. Before, the door opened and blocked the way to the shower, so this eliminated that problem. It makes it feel WAY bigger!

The flooring is vinyl tile from Lowe's. Just peel and stick. It really was THAT simple.

Sink, Vanity and shelf are from Ikea. Mirror is from Lowe's.

Those cute little baskets are also from Ikea. I love the design of them and the little pop of blue that they bring.

Here's a closer look...

The shower curtain is also from...surprise! IKEA! Are you seeing a theme here?

I added my DIY etched glass container for cotton balls.

During this whole process, my husband and I kept saying..."why didn't we do this sooner?"

But now it's done and it's nice and pretty for someone else. HA!

InstaFriday

I know I've been MIA lately, but I have a reason...WE SOLD OUR HOUSE!!

It's been a crazy whirlwind of action around here...finishing up our master bathroom (getting it pretty for someone else), keeping the house spotless for showings and open houses, meetings with our Realtor and signing lots of documents. I feel like it has been a full-time job.

BUT, all of that has paid off...we listed our house and got it sold in 11 days! God is so goooooood!!

So here is some Instagrams to get caught up on the everyday stuff.

Homemade french bread with brushetta for dinner. At 8pm.

Date night with my man. 21 and over movie theatre...yuussss!

With flavored popcorn butters...hello rosemary bacon!

Anything above 100 degrees in the Northwest is "hot"

My phone was hijacked by a silly 7 year old

The kids and I harvested honey with my mom. The kids were just eating it off the frame. It's SO good!

Nutella Banana Cookies. I'm happy I found another recipe, besides banana bread, where I can use ripe bananas. Recipe here.

My kitchen helper. 16 months old.

Got stung by a bee on my toe and my entire foot swelled up like the incredible hulk. Can you tell which is which?

Weird side note...I was standing in the book aisle of Goodwill when it happened. Not walking around in a patch of flowers, making crazy fast motions. Just standing there! This is the second time in the last 3 or 4 months that I've been stung. What's up with that? Bee 02 / Me 00

Sausage stuffed zucchini boats. SO good! Recipe here.

Are you seeing a theme here? I have a thing about food...I like it. A LOT!

Someone was T-I-R-E-D at lunchtime! She ate her lunch and just dozed off.

And to that I will say, Good Night.

Have a great weekend!

Bathroom Update

Hello August! It's hard to believe July has come and gone. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind.

Since the decision to put our house on the market, I feel like my life has revolved around LOTS of tiny projects around the house and one not-so-tiny project...our master bathroom. It's a small bathroom that has been way overdue for a facelift.

This is the photo after we ripped out everything...

And here is what it looks like now...

The sink, vanity and side table are all from ikea and the mirror is from Lowe's.

It is mostly finished. Our shower will be installed this week so I'll have more photos coming.
